The Casio MEMORY-8F is a 6 function basic calculator produced by Casio in Japan. The main features of this calculator are its memory functionality and small size. A version of this calculator with white number keys and black text is also in existence.
Internal design
The calculator is based around the NEC μPD977C, a calculator ASIC, which integrates arithmetic, display control, and keypad input reading all into a single chip. The display used is a Toshiba E6535A, a eight digit 8 segment vacuum fluorescent display module. The power supply for the vacuum fluorescent display is housed on a separate daughter board.
The keypad on this calculator uses an interesting mechanism, where each key has its own conical spring, which makes contact directly with the PCB when the keys are pressed. Thus, no conductive pads are required, which leads to greater long term reliability in the key mechanism and consistent key feel as the calculator ages.
