Internal designEdit

The calculator is based around the NEC μPD977C, a calculator ASIC, which integrates arithmetic, display control, and keypad input reading all into a single chip. The display used is a Toshiba E6535A, a eight digit 8 segment vacuum fluorescent display module. The power supply for the vacuum fluorescent display is housed on a separate daughter board.

The keypad on this calculator uses an interesting mechanism, where each key has its own conical spring, which makes contact directly with the PCB when the keys are pressed. Thus, no conductive pads are required, which leads to greater long term reliability in the key mechanism and consistent key feel as the calculator ages.
